EnerGuide home evaluations
An EnerGuide evaluation rates your home’s energy use and shows which upgrades will make the biggest difference to comfort and energy bills.
When you need it
- You’re planning renovations and want to spend on the upgrades that matter most.
- A rebate or financing program requires an evaluation before the work.
- The house is drafty, uncomfortable or expensive to heat.
- You’re buying or selling and want an official energy rating.
What we do
Book a visit
A registered energy advisor visits the home. Make sure the furnace, water heater and attic hatch are accessible.
Inspect and test
The advisor measures the house, records the insulation, windows and equipment, and runs a blower door test to measure air leakage.
Rate
The data goes into Natural Resources Canada’s software to produce your rating in gigajoules per year.
Report
You receive your rating, a label and a personalized list of recommended upgrades, showing how each would change your rating.

- An EnerGuide rating in gigajoules per year, and a label
- A Homeowner Information Sheet
- A Renovation Upgrade Report with recommended upgrades and before-and-after results
Questions
What does the rating mean?
It’s your home’s estimated annual energy use in gigajoules under standard operating conditions. The lower the number, the better. The report also compares your home with a typical new house.
Can I get a rebate?
Many provincial, municipal and utility programs offer rebates for evaluations or upgrades, and many require an evaluation before and after the work. Programs change often, so we’ll check what’s available where you live.
Who can do an EnerGuide evaluation?
Only registered energy advisors working through a service organization licensed by Natural Resources Canada can issue an official EnerGuide rating.
